Rickia Young is a Philadelphia woman who received $2 million from the City of Philadelphia after she was beaten and separated from a child by police during the riots.
Officials hit Young’s window with batons as she unknowingly drove into a demonstration. Later, the union claimed on social media that officers had saved the little ‘lost’ from her.

Nursing assistant Rickia Young was driving to her home in the early hours of October 27, 2020, when she unknowingly attended a large protest against the police murder of Walter Wallace Jr.
As per her attorneys, she tried to make a three-point turn of the tense scene when police smashed her windows with her batons.
Young was handcuffed and separated from her teenage nephew and her two-year-old son for several hours, and as per the woman’s attorney, no one has been charged or cited. The deaf or hard-of-hearing child lost his hearing aids during the fight.
The Fraternal Order of Police, the nation’s largest police union, posted a photo on Facebook two days later that showed Young’s toddler in the arms of a Philadelphia police officer right after the incident.
Who Were The Suspects?
Since then, two Philadelphia police officers, an officer, and a sergeant have been released in connection with Young’s treatment, a city spokesman said.
“The behavior that occurred during the interaction between Rickia Young, her nephew, her son, and some police officers at the scene violated the mandate of the Philadelphia Police Department,” Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said in a statement.

“The ability of local officers and guards to defuse the situation was abandoned, and instead of fighting crime and fear of crime, some of the local officials created an environment for Rickia Young, her family, and other members of the Public terrified police force.”
Representatives for the National Order of Fraternal Police and FOP Lodge 5, which represents officials in Philadelphia, did not immediately return messages requesting comment Tuesday.
