Kyle Van De Water was a former New York Congressional candidate and army veteran who apparently died by suicide on Tuesday, less than two weeks after withdrawing his candidacy for the United States House, government officials and reports said.
Afghanistan war veteran Kyle, who last year ran for a seat in the United States house representing part of New York’s Hudson Valley region, was found dead in the rural Poughkeepsie cemetery, reported MidHudsonNews.com.

What Was The Kyle Van De Water Cause of Death?
The Republican Party and the Afghan congressman were found dead in the New York State Cemetery after an alleged suicide two weeks after withdrawing from New York’s 19th Congressional District.
On Monday night, local police responded to a “man down” report at the rural Poughkeepsie cemetery before identifying the body as belonging to 41-year-old Kyle Van De Water.
Although there was no official statement on the cause of death, law enforcement officials told MidHudsonNews.com that he was being investigated for probable suicide.
Sources told the publication that his death was being investigated as a “probable suicide.”
His Professional Career
Van De Water, 41, a lawyer and father of four, served in the U.S. Army for eight years and unsuccessfully ran for Congress against Democrat Antonio Delgado in 2020, losing that race by 11%.
He was supposed to run again in 2022, but he announced the end of his campaign in a Facebook post on August 27, in which he wrote: “My circumstances have changed and I can no longer donate 110% to this business.”
Van De Water grew up in Poughkeepsie and graduated from Spackenkill High School in 1998 before going to Albany Law School, from which he graduated in 2005.
He joined the United States Army in 2006.
Five years later, while serving in Afghanistan, he received the Bronze Star, followed by the Meritorious Service Medal and an honorable discharge in 2014, as per his website.
He held the rank of major and continued to serve in the Army Reserve JAG Corps.
Van De Water was an attorney at Corbally, Gartland, and Rappleyea in Poughkeepsie settled in Millbrook, and served as a village manager, as per his Linkedin page.
Delgado defeated him in the 2020 general elections, in which he obtained about 44% of the votes.
He announced that he would run again in July and fought for about a month before resigning on 27th August.
Tributes Paid in Honor of Kyle Van De Water
Dutchess County Director Marc Molinaro and Representative Antonio Delgado confirmed Van De Water’s death on social media.
Molinaro said he learned more about Van De Water during his race against Delgado last year.
In a statement, he said: “My heart is broken for Kyle’s children and family. My prayers are with them as they try to face this absolute tragedy.”
He continued: “Kyle was a war hero who risked his life and his well-being for his country. We owe everything to him, to his family, and to all of our brave soldiers for the sacrifices they have made.”
