The Panjshir Valley is located in the Hindu Kush Mountains, about 145 km north of Kabul. The Taliban were unable to cope with this major resistance after crushing pro-government troops within months.
The events came after the escalation of the battle for Panjshir province on Friday evening.

Fight in The Panjshir Valley
The Panjshir Valley is the only region not in Taliban hands due to its geographic irregularity. It is jealously guarded as the birthplace of one of Afghanistan’s most fantastic sons.
The anti-Taliban fighters are led by former Vice President Amrullah Saleh, who called for humanitarian aid to come to the aid of the thousands of people displaced by the fighting.
Several Taliban delegations tried to negotiate with the resistance there, but the talks failed to gain ground. Saleh fled to Panjshir after Afghan President Ashraf Ghani left Afghanistan when the Taliban marched on the capital.
The flash bombardment of fighters across the country took less than a week to overwhelm an estimated 3,000,000 government troops, most of whom surrendered or fled.
