Lord Miles Routledge is a British student trapped in Afghanistan during the Taliban takeover after spending a vacation there.
As per the Sun, Routledge chose Afghanistan as a vacation destination after Google searched for “the most dangerous cities to visit.”
A friend told The Sun Routledge “wanted to show something strange this summer,” and his mother is now desperate to make sure he stays safe.

Miles Routledge announced on Facebook that he was in a safe house. The Sun reported that it was a United Nations safe house.
“I am safe in this safe house, the people are great and I am looking forward to the 2 news articles that came out. We can be happy that I am fine, but please consider the people who live in Afghanistan like that how you do much worse. Pray for her please, I will do it tonight,” he wrote.
“I felt like the country wasn’t going to fall for a month, so I thought it would be fine,” he told The Spectator.
“I had seen people’s YouTube videos. I thought the worst possible scenario would be food poisoning.”
“I like risk, I’m a banker, so it makes sense,” Routledge told the London Times.
“I hate lying on the beach so I wanted to do something different. After I graduate I will have a full time job and maybe a family so I won’t have the opportunity to do things like that anymore. I thought [Afghanistan] looked pretty good, the food looked amazing and it was so cheap.”
Lord Miles Routledge First Visited Chernobyl On Vacations
Afghanistan isn’t Routledge’s first dangerous vacation trip. He announced on Facebook that he had visited Chernobyl.
“It’s been almost 2 years since I went to Chernobyl for my first vacation abroad. I can confidently say it’s better than my college halls,” he wrote.
In May, he announced that he had booked his flight to Afghanistan and wrote:
