After heavy rains in the west Indian city of Mumbai, a residential building collapsed, killing at least eleven people including 8 children, and injuring seven others, the police said on Thursday.
First Heavy monsoon rains flooded several parts of the city, the financial and entertainment capital of India, on Wednesday. The three-story building collapsed Wednesday night, and police officer Ravindra Kadam said a dozen rescuers were clearing the rubble to find residents who may still be trapped.
New Delhi TV station said the building collapsed on top of another building in a slum in Mumbai’s Malad West neighborhood.
Local residents joined fire brigades and police to rescue people and took the seven injured to a hospital on the outskirts of Kandivali.
Mumbai recorded 222 millimeters of rain in 12 hours on Wednesday.
