Govt will impose the lockdown in capital cities if the “alarming” increase in Covid cases continues

The government today announced lockdown, the closure of a major city in case the number of Covid cases increases alarmingly. Amid a rapid spike in Covid-19 cases triggered by a more contagious and potentially deadly variant of the UK’s coronavirus across the country, the National Center for Command and Operations (NCOC) announced on Wednesday that the closure is being considered.

Pakistan recorded 5,499 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the Covid-19 number to 772,381.

The death toll in Pakistan rose to 16,600 after 147 patients died in the last 24 hours of the disease. Most of the deaths occurred in Punjab, followed by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).

The federal government’s National Control Operations Center (NCOC) has been informed of the alarming and rapid increase in Covid-19 cases in large cities.

During a press conference after the meeting, Umar alerted citizens, saying, “The country is only days away from taking serious action if the Covid-19 situation continues on the same path.”

The government announced that it would impose a blockade on major cities if the number of cases in Covid increases. This is the last chance to break the chain of daily Covid cases, “said the head of the NCOC.

“If Covid-19’s trajectory continues on the same path, strict restrictions should be imposed on capitals being blocked,” warned the minister.

He warned citizens to take the pandemic seriously and follow the Covid-19 protocols for their own good and for those around them. “Otherwise, most of the reported cases will drop dead this week.”

The Interior Ministry has urged all major cities to lock down for the safety of residents if the alarming surge in Covid cases continues. When asked about the current statistics, the minister replied that the oxygen bed occupancy in the third wave was 30 percent compared to the first wave. He also said that most major cities used fans with 80% capacity.

“The government plans to impose closings in major cities and provinces if the alarming surge in dengue cases continues,”Umar said, adding that those numbers would only increase and put more pressure on the country’s health system if people did Law does not accept the situation.

The NCOC statement said the pressure on health facilities across the country is growing from 4,000 to 5,000 cases per day. “Hospital admissions and the mass demand for the oxygenated bed have increased the variety,” he added.
