Newnham College is inviting applications from promising early career female researchers for a Research Fellowship. This position focuses on topics related to economic and social development or international relations in the Global South.

The chosen candidate will work at the Margaret Anstee Centre—a tribute to Dame Margaret Anstee, the first woman Under-Secretary General of the United Nations and a proud Newnham alumna. More details about the Centre can be found via the provided link.

At the Centre, work revolves around trends in international development while supporting broad social and economic progress worldwide. It is also home to the Archives of the Disappeared, an initiative that tackles the challenges of researching, documenting, and gathering evidence on communities, social movements, and cultures affected by violence.

Who is Eligible?

Applications are welcome from exceptional women who have completed their doctoral degrees.

Margaret Anstee Fellows receive support from the Knowledge Exchange Co-ordinator, whose role is to help boost their research and encourage sharing, influence, and change. The Centre has a keen interest in candidates involved in ‘translational’ research.

Dr Mezna Qato leads the Centre. Past and current Fellows include Dr Cynthia Kamwengo, Dr Diala Lteif, Dr Georgia Cole, Dr Jessica Sklair, and Dr Daniela Sanchez-Lopez. The Centre offers visiting fellowships—recently including Dr Fadia Panosetti (Postdoctoral Affiliate) and Rashalee Mitchell (Visiting Bye-Fellow)—and typically supports two or three postgraduate scholarships at a time. Prof Emma Mawdsley served as the founding Director.

Located within Newnham College, the Centre serves as a welcoming space for discussion, research, and engagement beyond academia. Margaret Anstee Fellows are invited to build links with at least one department or centre at the University of Cambridge.
