The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MOITT) in Islamabad has announced its plan to roll out 5G technology starting in June 2025.

The auction process for the 5G spectrum is going to begin next month and will be carried out in five phases. In the initial phase, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) will present the consultant’s recommendations to the Spectrum Advisory Committee.

In the next phase, the advisory committee will finalize policy reforms and determine the pricing and trading terms for the 5G spectrum by March. Following this, the federal government will issue policy directives in April 2025, paving the way for the PTA to conduct the spectrum auction in May 2025.

The PTA decided to auction four frequency bands: 700 MHz, 2300 MHz, 2600 MHz, and 3500 MHz. This development is being viewed as a major step forward, with 5G technology expected to bring significant economic and social advancements. The roadmap reflects the Ministry’s commitment to embracing this transformative technology.
