Meta has shifted Facebook’s fact-checking to a community-driven model and is now cutting 5% of its workforce to address performance issues.
Performance-Driven Cuts
Mark Zuckerberg announced in an internal memo that Meta will move out low-performing employees more quickly, reducing its workforce by 3,600 out of 72,000 employees. This follows a similar round of layoffs in October 2023. Affected employees will be notified by February 10th.
Operational Changes
Meta’s strategy focuses on creating a leaner, more efficient organization, with changes to its fact-checking system and criticism of competitors like Apple. These moves raise concerns about employee morale amid repeated layoffs.
