Gallagher’s visit is viewed as reaffirming this support, especially given his efforts to bolster Taiwan’s defense capabilities. Historically, Beijing has strongly reacted to such visits, but analysts believe China may express discontent without escalating militarily, unlike the response to Nancy Pelosi’s visit in August 2022.
