General Elections Date Revealed by Pakistan’s Election Commission
The upcoming general elections in Pakistan are scheduled to take place during the final week of January 2024, as confirmed by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
In an official press release, the commission has disclosed its ongoing efforts in delineating electoral constituencies. It intends to unveil an initial list of these constituencies on September 27, 2023.
The final compilation of these constituencies will be completed by November 30, taking into account any objections or suggestions from concerned parties.
With all preparations in place, the ECP has officially declared that the general election campaign will span a duration of 54 days, with the election itself slated for late January of the following year.
This announcement comes on the heels of the ECP’s recent statement, wherein it mentioned plans for a meeting with political parties next month to discuss the code of conduct for the general elections.
The ECP has shared a draft code of conduct with political parties, seeking their input before establishing the final set of guidelines. This proposed code underscores the importance of political parties, candidates, and election agents refraining from actions or statements that may undermine Pakistan’s core values, sovereignty, stability, safety, moral standards, public order, or the autonomy and credibility of its judiciary.
Furthermore, it emphasizes the necessity of avoiding any disparaging or derogatory remarks directed at government institutions, including the judiciary and the military.
