Introducing The All-New Apple iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max: Unveiling Titanium Frames, First Periscope Camera, And Beyond
The iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max may be the biggest update to the lineup since the Pro Max was first introduced in 2019.
The Pro siblings get the same USB-C treatment as the regular iPhone 15 and 15 Plus, meaning you can finally use the same cable as your other Apple devices or share them with Android owners.
Design And Display
The screen sizes are the same as last year, 6.1″ and 6.7″ on the Pro and Pro Max respectively. These are 120 Hz OLED panels with a maximum brightness of 2000 nits.
Apple has switched from stainless steel to titanium for the frames of the new Pro models, reportedly resulting in the lightest Pro models ever. They also have the thinnest frames yet.
What’s notable is that the mute switch has been converted into an action button. Pressing and holding once will re-enable silent mode by default. However, now you can assign a series of actions to a single or double keypress.
Internal Components And Software
The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are powered by the next-generation A17 Pro chip, a revolutionary advance in the industry as the first chip based on a 3nm process. This powerhouse features a 6-core processor with 2 high-performance cores that Apple says are 10% faster than those in the A16 Bionic, as well as 4 efficient cores.
The GPU is a 6-core unit that offers 20% higher peak performance compared to its predecessor. Notably, this GPU enables hardware-accelerated ray tracing, which is said to be four times faster than the software ray tracing found on last year’s chip.
During the presentation, Apple showed that console games such as Resident Evil Village and Assassin’s Creed Mirage run smoothly on the new iPhone 15 Pro models, with both titles expected to appear on these devices next year.
Storage options increase up to 1TB and all iPhone 15 models launch with iOS 17.
Cameras
The main camera system is completely new this year. The 48 MP main camera is based on a larger sensor that supports second-generation sensor-shift stabilization. Also new is the ultra-wide module with 100% focus pixels and macro focus functions. These cameras are shared between the Pro and Pro Max variants.
The iPhone 15 Pro has the same 3x zoom camera as last year, but the Pro Max has a full periscope zoom lens, a first for Apple. It allows for 5x zoom and also uses a phone’s brightness lens.
Battery And Price
Apple doesn’t like to talk about specific battery numbers, but those should be revealed later once people open these phones. In any case, these phones have the same USB-C ports as the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus, but have faster USB 3.0 transfer speeds of up to 10Gbps.
The iPhone 15 Pro starts at 999 USD and offers a base model with 128GB of storage. The iPhone 15 Pro Max, on the other hand, starts at 1,199 USD and now offers a base model with a generous 256GB of built-in storage.
