Instagram Reels Will Soon Be Three Times Longer
Instagram wants to make its reel video content much longer than before to compete with TikTok. Soon we’ll have Reels up to 10 minutes long, as mobile developer and tipster Alessandro Paluzzi points out.
He also shared screenshots of this upcoming update, showing a side-by-side comparison of the current 3-minute limit for Reels as well as the new 10-minute duration.

Meta and Instagram haven’t responded with an official comment yet, but given Paluzzi’s leaks, it’s very likely we’ll get this feature at some point. Additionally, we know that competing apps are quickly adding competitive features these days.
Increasing the duration of Instagram Reels to 10 minutes brings them closer to many YouTube videos and TikTok videos, whose duration limits were also recently updated. TikTok has even introduced 20-minute videos on the platform, but these are limited to paying users, allowing fans to watch longer videos from their favorite content creators.
YouTube, on the other hand, has focused on adding short-form content. The video-sharing giant also started offering more monetization for YouTube Shorts earlier this year.
Instagram has been working on revamping Reels to increase engagement for some time. Many of these updates are direct responses to TikTok features, such as: Editing tools and templates to help you create viral content.
