UAE Issues New Penalties For Visa Violations

The UAE Digital Government, together with the Federal Agency for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP), has issued new guidelines on visa penalties for residents and tourists who overstay on expired visas.

Anyone staying in the country will be fined AED 50 daily. This will take effect immediately after the expiry of any grace period granted for visa renewal.

For complete information on visa fees, including issuance, extension, and cancellation fees, residents and tourists are recommended to visit the official website of the Digital Government or the Dubai Directorate General of Residence and Foreign Affairs (GDRFA). ).

Individuals wishing to apply for their visa or change their status can easily do so through various online channels including the agency’s website, its dedicated smart app, the Dubai Now platform, and reputable writing centers.

Once the application is accepted, the applicant will receive an official letter of approval along with their visa documentation.

In June, Dubai scrapped its 10-day grace period for tourists whose visas have expired. Previously, people could stay in Dubai for an additional 10 days after their visa expired without being fined. However, if someone stays longer then they have to pay a fine of AED 50 per day as mentioned above.

An ICP official confirmed that the grace period for visit visas is no longer in effect. He recommended people apply for a 30-day visa extension if they want to stay in the country legally and avoid penalties for overstaying.
