PMDC Will Stop Promoting Unrecognized Medical And Dental Programs

Pakistan Medical Dental Council (PMDC) has written letters to all medical and dental institutions/universities to register with the PMDC under Section 25 of the PMDC Law to offer postgraduate programs.

In accordance with the direction of the Board of Directors, the PMDC Registrar has strictly prohibited all colleges and universities from promoting or offering unrecognized postgraduate medical and dental programs.

In the event of non-compliance with the subpoena, PMDC will initiate disciplinary proceedings under Article 35(i) of the PMDC Act 2022 which will state:

Penalty: (1) Whoever directs, establishes, or approves an establishment, or announces admission to an establishment for the provision of training in medicine or dentistry, not recognized under Sections 21, 22, 25, 26, or 29 or in under Section 33 shall be found guilty of an offense punishable by a severe prison sentence of not more than five years but not less than one year, or a fine of not more than twenty million rupees but not less than ten million rupees or both and are also subject to the closure of that facility.

The PMDC Registrar further stated that all doctors/dentists wishing to pursue postgraduate medical/dental qualifications in Pakistan are advised to only accept admission to postgraduate programs recognized by the PMDC.

It is categorically reported that the PMDC will only register PG qualifications that have been duly reviewed and recognized by the Council and are included in the two Schedules of the PMDC Act 2022.

He added that PMDC has set standards of excellence and continues to work towards their implementation in all medical and dental institutes in Pakistan for undergraduate and postgraduate education.

The PMDC will continue to work towards the goals set by the Council to raise the standard of medical and dental education and licensing in Pakistan while disciplining individuals and organizations that do not meet the standards of excellence set by the PMDC.
