Imran Khan Was Arrested By The Rangers in Islamabad
Former Pakistani Prime Minister and Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Imran Khan was arrested by rangers at around 2:40 p.m. at the Islamabad court complex in the federal capital. Tuesday.
The former prime minister, who continued his tirade against his rivals and state institutions, was arrested by paramilitary forces under Section 9-A of the 1999 NAB Order in the Al-Qadir case.
Meanwhile, initial reports indicate that 70-year-old Khan was taken away by a paramilitary crew-cab vehicle as the rebel leader’s supporters resisted his arrest after the incident.
PTI Hits The Streets Of Pakistan
Former Pakistani leader Tehreek and Insaf have announced protests across Pakistan over the arrest of the party leader in a corruption case.
In a social media post, Fawad Chaudhry urged the masses to take to the streets in support of Imran Khan. He said people should leave their homes and said Islamabad’s high court had been attacked. Chaudhry said the IHC was manned by rangers and lawyers were being tortured, and Imran Khan’s car was surrounded.
It was also reported that the PTI leader’s lawyer was injured at the Islamabad Supreme Court compound.
Islamabad High Court learns of high profile arrest and summons IGP Islamabad Attorney General
Shortly after the arrest, the Islamabad High Court learned of the arrest of the former prime minister and summoned the Islamabad Police Inspector General, the Attorney General of Pakistan.
Imran Khan Was Mentally Prepared For Arrest
Earlier today, Imran shared a clip saying there was no trial against him. “I’m mentally ready to be arrested. If I have to go to jail, I’m ready,” said the PTI boss.
The development comes a day after the Pakistani military warned the PTI chief against slandering incumbent officers as he called the institution and Pakistan his own and said he didn’t have to lie.
