UAE Inaugurates The New Abu Dhabi Bridge, Reducing Travel Time By 72%
A new bridge has been announced in Abu Dhabi that will connect East and West Bani Yas and cut travel time from 11 minutes to just 3 minutes.
The head of the Ministry of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), Ali Al Shorafa, inaugurated the new project. Several CEOs and relevant managers attended the opening ceremony.
Located on Abu Dhabi Al Ain Road (E22), the bridge will greatly improve traffic flow from Bani Yas to other parts of the city. It will have a capacity of 1,400 vehicles per hour from E22 and 1,100 vehicles per hour from East or West Baniyas.
The project includes an upper crossing connecting East and West Bani Yas and some associated roads. The existing East Bani Yas roundabout will be replaced with a traffic light crossing and pedestrian ramps will also be built.
The existing pedestrian tunnels will be demolished and the water, communications, irrigation, and sewage systems will be preserved.
According to Salem Khalfan Al Kaabi, the new bridge is a major achievement for the city as it connects different communities and provides better accessibility for residents and visitors.
Saif Badr Al Qubaisi, Chief Executive of Abu Dhabi Municipality, added that the new bridge is an essential part of the city’s strategic plans to improve its infrastructure and accommodate the growing population and motorists.
The project includes the installation of various systems such as CCTV, traffic lights, pedestrian signals, fiber optic cables, and radar.
The transport hub will have 210 energy-efficient pylons. Abu Dhabi Municipality will prioritize sustainability, adhere to high global standards and implement best practices throughout the project.
