Fire Engulfs Multi-Storey Building in Shara-e-Faisal Karachi
One person was injured when a fire broke out in a 16-story building near the Nursery station on Karachi’s main thoroughfare, Sharea Faisal, late Saturday, authorities said.
Authorities reported the presence of more than 12 pumpers, two snorkels, and numerous tankers, and two water tanks to meet water needs.
A witness at the scene of the fire reports seeing people on the eighth level of the Portway Trade Center building, which is next to a gas station. Firefighters found that there are multiple offices in the building.
According to sources, a third-degree fire that started in a stockade at the top of the building eventually spread to the entire building.
The firefighter reports that the blaze is largely under control and firefighters are trying to get into the building.
Law enforcement officers, from the police to rangers, are stationed there to maintain order. The Shahrah-e-Quaideen Bridge and a gas station next to the structure have been closed, authorities said.
“The intensity of the fire on the lower floors of the building has decreased,” firefighters confirmed, adding that efforts are underway to extinguish the raging fire on the upper floors with a breathing hose.
