You No Longer Need To Present A Passport At Dubai Airports

The Directorate-General for Residence and Foreign Affairs (DDRFA) has introduced a biometric system that eliminates the need to present a passport or boarding pass at Dubai airports.

The new facility uses IRIS and face recognition, providing a safer and faster way to complete the onboarding process. This system applies to expatriates, tourists, and Emiratis registered in the database since 2019.

Biometric data is stored on the GDXRF server and can also be used for future trips, avoiding long queues for document verification.

The Dubai government’s official website says the city welcomed more than 23.7 million passengers last year, including 107,082 on New Year’s Eve. The figures reflect a growth of around 89% compared to 2021.

The Airports Council International (ACI) report 2022 ranks Dubai’s airports among the best in the region and in the world. The UAE passport is also the strongest in the Middle East, with 129 visa-free or visa-required destinations.

According to the Passport Index, the UAE passport ranks 25th internationally, with Iceland and Liechtenstein leading and New Zealand and the UK behind. It has a score of 86.04 and has no bans on entry.
