PTI leader and former Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin is suspected of asking former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister Taimoor Saleem Jhagra to write a letter to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to put pressure on the coalition government. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) applied to the Home Office for permission to arrest Tarin.
Shaukat Tarin Arrested in Case Of Audio Leak
The agency concluded its investigation into the matter and decided to take legal action against the Treasury Secretary for allegedly trying to sabotage the IMF’s lending program.
According to the FIA, Tarin was trying to undermine national security and interests.
The PDM-led government, which is trying to revive the loan program amid dwindling foreign exchange reserves, passed the tape to the FIA for investigation.
In the event of an IMF audio leak, the FIA decides to stop Shaukat Tarin last year. At that time, the country was going through a severe economic crisis.
In the call, Pakistan’s former chief financial officer, Mohsin Leghari, appears to be asking Taimur Jhagra to change their minds about the provincial surplus.
When asked by the Pakistani senator if the letter was ready, KP Finance Minister Taimoor Jhagra replied that he would send the letter as soon as it was ready.
Tarin then instructed KP’s chief financial officer to highlight the flood damage in the letter. The first goal would be the rapid distribution of funds for infrastructure repairs and residents of flooded areas.
