In Sindh, The Temperature Drops Below Freezing For The First Time in Years

A brutal cold snap swept the country after the end of the rainy season, with temperatures plummeting in various parts of Sindh, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to Pak Weather, Pakistan’s largest network of automated weather stations, the temperature in Sindh fell below zero last night for the first time in several years. Moro, a town in Naushahro Feroze, recorded a temperature of -2.7 °C last night.

Speaking to News media, Owais Hyder, a weather analyst and CEO of Pak Weather, said that while this is not the lowest temperature ever recorded in Sindh, it is still seen as a significant drop for the province as temperatures have not been for several years were more so low. The lowest temperature ever recorded in Sindh is -5.4°C recorded in Mohen-Jo-Daro in 2006.

He added that the Gorakh hills of Sindh, to be clear, are known as ‘Sindh’s Murree’ because the hill station receives snowfall in winter and registers sub-zero temperatures.

However, since there is no weather observatory there, authorities have not kept records of temperatures over the years. As a result, the temperature of -5.4C in Mohen-Jo-Daro is considered the lowest in the province, Owais said.

Meanwhile, other parts of the province are also hit by a severe cold snap.

Karachi is also experiencing the coldest winter in decades. The provincial capital has experienced record temperatures time and time again this season.

Karachi woke up on Saturday after experiencing the coldest night of this winter season. said the mercury fell to 1.4C in Malir Cantt last night.

Note here that these record temperatures for Karachi for this winter season only. The coldest temperature ever recorded in Karachi was 0 °C in 1934.
