A lab technician who strangled and stabbed a colleague in an affair for weeks has been found guilty of murder. Ross McCullam, 30, and Megan Newborough, 23, had been seeing each other for about a month when he killed her last year.
He strangled her and then slit her throat 14 times. He later told police he did it “to make sure Megan was dead.” McCullam then dumped Ms. Newborough’s body near a Leicestershire country lane before trying to cover his tracks by leaving a voicemail on his phone saying he loved her.

He was found guilty of her murder today after a six-week trial at Leicester Crown Court and nodded twice as the sentence was read.
“Ms. Newborough’s mother, father, and sister cried and held each other at the back of the courthouse as he was sentenced. The family said their lives were “really shattered” after the verdict.
“Megan shone like a star for everyone she came in contact with. She excelled at her job and was an avid dancer, teaching children of all ages. She had a bright future ahead of her,” they said.
“Megan’s story is our story – She was an excellent character judge. He knew who to trust and who not. He left the house that evening in a good mood. The thought of what happened to him hours later and the pain he is facing is something we cannot escape. Ross McCullam, who strangled his girlfriend and slit her throat 14 times before she disposed of her body, has been convicted of murder.”
McCullam, a laboratory technician, assaulted 23-year-old Megan Newborough at her home in Coalville, Leicestershire on 6th August 2021. The couple met at work. He admitted to the murder but denied the murder. Leicester Crown Court has found the 30-year-old guilty and the same court will sentence him on Friday.
