Danny Norris’s Cause Of Death

Seven-year-old Danny Norris, who won the hearts of villagers in South Tipperary, West Waterford, and across the country during his battle with cancer, has died.

He died peacefully at his home in Glasha, halfway between Ballymacarbry and Clonmel, on Friday morning, surrounded by his family.

The people of Ballymacarbry and Newcastle are deeply saddened by his death and are praying for his grieving parents Lisa and Lar and his two brothers Charlie and Shay.

Last Friday, Danny returned home from Crumlin for treatment after his parents won a legal battle with the HSE to get him hospice care there.

In early November, the family asked Danny to come home so they could be with him during his final days. However, they were denied such home care for Danny.

Before her death, Lisa and Lar worked heroically to restore pediatric hospice service to families in need. This service was discontinued in 2017. The Norris family has expressed a wish that no other family would experience the trauma of having to fight for such care.

Professor Michael Toomey delivered a message this morning.

“It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we in the parish learn of the passing of our little blue hero, Danny Norris. Danny passed away peacefully at home this morning surrounded by his loving parents. -His loves, Lisa and Lar, their older brothers Charlie and Shay, their grandparents, their family and friends, and of course their beloved panda.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with his parents, siblings, and loved ones at this sad and difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are also with Danny’s classmates at Ballymacarbry National School, his teachers, and the countless others whose lives have impacted the extraordinary seven-year-old, the pastor said.

The following statement was issued by the Principal of Ballymacarbry National School, where Danny Michael J. Ryan attended school after his death.

“We received news this morning of the passing of Danny Norris, one of our current students. This is a terrible loss to his family, our school, and our local community.”

Our thoughts are with Danny’s family as are our prayers. His mother Lisa, his father Lar, his brothers Charlie and Shay, as well as other relatives and acquaintances,

Anyone who ever knew Tier 1 student Danny will miss him dearly.

Danny was a happy and generous young man who loved school and made new friends.

He will always be remembered for his sense of humor, love for turtles, pandas, and broad social circle.

We spoke to Danny’s parents and assured them of our continued support over the coming days and weeks.

Teachers today received advice from psychologists at the National Educational Psychology Service (NEPS) and from our chaplain, Father Michael Toomey, on how best to comfort our children at this difficult time.

Our school is open tomorrow between 2 pm and 4 pm so people can come together and share their experiences and memories of Danny at the school he loved. This is done out of respect for and in memory of Danny.

I said, “I’m not Naomh go raibh, Danny.”
