General Sahir Shamshad Mirza Takes Over The Reins Of The CJCSC

General Sahir Shamshad Mirza was sworn in as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) in a stunning ceremony at the Joint Chiefs of Staff headquarters, Rawalpindi on Sunday, the military media department said.

According to Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR), a smartly presented Joint Services guard greeted Gen. Mirza after he arrived at the scene. He also reviewed the honor guard and parade.

The ceremony was attended by a large number of active and retired officers from all three services, along with the Chairs of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Gen. Mirza took office after former Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman Gen. (ret.) Nadeem Raza hung up his boots a day earlier.

Gen (Ret’d) Raza retired on 26th November after 41 years of illustrious military service.

Gen Mirza was briefed on the CJCSC earlier this week after President Arif Alvi signed the summary and approved the nomination.

“Chairman Dr. Arif Alvi promoted Lt. Gen. Sahir Shamshad Mirza HI(M) to the rank of General effective immediately and appointed him Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff effective 27th November 2022. The Chairman promoted Lt. Gen. Syed Asim Munir HI(M) to General effective immediately and appointed him Chief of the Army General Staff effective November 29, 2022,” the President’s Office said in a statement.

He added that the promotion and appointment were made pursuant to Article 243(4)(a) and (b) and Article 48(1) of the Pakistani Constitution. Both articles should be read in conjunction with Sections 8-A and 8-D of the Pakistan Army Act 1952.

Alongside General Mirza, General Asim Munir has been appointed as the next Chief of Staff of the Pakistan Army (COAS), and outgoing COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa will retire on 29th November.
