Mir Balakh Sher Mazari Seasoned Politician Dies At 95
Former Prime Minister Sardar Mir Balakh Sher Mazari, 94, died on Friday, News media reported.
Family sources said the former caretaker prime minister has been receiving treatment in Lahore for a long time.
He served as interim prime minister after President Ghulam Ishaq Khan overthrew the Mian Nawaz Sharif government in 1993.
Mazari’s tenure as interim prime minister ended abruptly on May 26, 1993, when the Supreme Court overturned the president’s order and reinstated Nawaz Sharif as prime minister.
He was a tumandar (chief) and chief Sardar of the Mazari tribe, located in the tri-state area between the provinces of Balochistan, Sindh, and Punjab in Pakistan.
As the chief of his tribe, he bears the title ‘Mir’, but also knows the styles ‘Tumandar’ or ‘Sardar’.
Mazari is the 22nd Sardar and the seventh Mir of the Mazari tribe. In addition to Mazari, his brother Sherbaz Khan Mazari also played a role in Pakistani politics.
His son Sardar Riaz Mehmood Khan Mazari was elected to the Pakistan National Assembly in the NA-195 (Rajanpur-III) constituency in the 2018 Pakistani general election as a candidate for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
His grandson Mir Dost Mohammad Mazari is a Pakistan People’s Party (PPPP) MP from NA-175 Rajanpur who served as Parliamentary Secretary at the Ministry of Water and Energy.
PM Expresses Sadness At Mazari’s Death
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his sadness and sadness at the death of former interim Prime Minister Mir Balakh Sher Mazari and said his service to the nation will be remembered forever.
The prime minister said he is the leader of the Mazari tribe and plays an important role in the country’s politics. He said Mazari is a prominent figure in Balochistan and Pakistani politics.
He prayed to Allah Almighty for the rest of the soul of the deceased.
