Facebook Plans To Compete With TikTok With A Major Overhaul
Facebook’s main priority is to compete with TikTok. Company executives, as well as Mark Zuckerberg himself, have made this clear on multiple occasions. Therefore, the social media giant has now revealed how it will completely overhaul the app to tackle TikTok.
The news comes from a Facebook note shared by an executive and published by The Vergegen. According to the document, Facebook is working on a major overhaul of its feed, which prioritizes recommended content from pages, creators, or anyone else you don’t follow.
The memo, shared by Facebook App Manager Tom Alison, says the company intends to morph into a “discovery engine” focused on recommendations akin to TikTok’s “For You” tab. These recommendations come mostly from “offline content” like Reels, and users see fewer messages from friends and family. This tab focuses only on your activity, similar to Instagram’s Explore tab.

The plan also includes bringing Messenger’s inbox back into the Facebook app to encourage people to share content from that discovery engine.
It’s unclear how long it will take for Facebook to implement these changes, but at first glance, it seems like a major overhaul that could take a while. In any case, we will update this section as soon as there is official news from Facebook.
