The National Assembly will elect the new Speaker of the House of Representatives (Prime Minister) on April 11, 2022 (Monday) after passing a motion of no confidence in Imran Khan.

On Sunday April 10, opposition parties in the National Assembly defeated the ruling PTI government in the jointly proposed motion of no confidence in Prime Minister Imran Khan by 174 votes, setting a new precedent in the country’s parliamentary history for internal change. democratic and constitutional.

PML-N President Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and PTI Vice-President Shah Mehmood Qureshi are in the running as both submitted their nomination papers for the new House Speaker to the National Assembly. Their documents were examined and approved by the Secretariat of the National Assembly. Previously, Dr. Babar Awan objected to PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif’s nomination papers, but the NA Secretariat rejected them.

The meeting would take place on Monday (April 11) at 2:00 p.m. to elect the new Chair of the Chamber (Prime Minister). Before the start of voting, the President of the Assembly reads out the names of the validly nominated candidates, hereinafter referred to as candidates in the race, in the order in which their declarations of candidacy have been received, and proceeds to vote in accordance with the procedure established in the second appendix.

According to the second timetable, the President of the Bureau ordered the bells to ring five minutes before the start of voting to allow for the attendance of absent Members in the hemicycle. Immediately after the bells stop ringing, all entrances to the lobby will be locked and congregation personnel stationed at each entrance will not permit entry or exit through those entrances until voting is complete.

The President of the Assembly then reads the resolution and asks Members wishing to vote for the resolution to stand in a single line through the entrance where the tellers will be stationed to record the votes. Arriving at the checkout, each member in turn names the division number assigned to them for payment.

Cashiers then enter their number into the division list while simultaneously calling out the member’s name. To ensure their voice has been recorded, the member should not move until they clearly hear the Deputy Returning Officer say their name. Once a member has cast their vote, they should not return to the House until the bell rings after the voting process is complete.

When the President checks that all MPs who wished to vote have cast their votes, he announces that the voting is over. The secretary then collects the partition list, counts the registered votes, and presents the result of the count to the President.

The Speaker then orders the bell to be rung for two minutes to allow MEPs to return to the Chamber. As soon as the bells have stopped ringing, the President of the Assembly announces the result.
