Will Smith publicly apologizes to Chris Rock
Hollywood star Will Smith has publicly apologized to Chris Rock for beating the comedian at the Oscars.
Smith, who won Best Actor of the Night, took the stage at the glitzy Hollywood ceremony and joked with Rock about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair.
“I want to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and wrong. I am ashamed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be,” star King Richard wrote on Instagram.
“Violence in any form is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at the Oscars last night was unacceptable and inexcusable,” Smith said.
“Joking at my expense is part of the job, but one joke about Jada’s condition was too much for me and I reacted emotionally.”
Pinkett Smith suffers from alopecia, a condition that causes hair loss, and her head was cut off at Sunday’s ceremony.
He added: “I would also like to apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the contestants and all viewers around the world. I would like to apologize to the Williams family and my King Richard family. I deeply regret that my behavior marred a wonderful journey for all of us.”
“I’m still in the works. Sincerely, Will,” he signed.
