Sheena Greitens, the ex-wife of leading Republican Senate nominee and former Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens, claimed he physically abused her and their children, according to court documents filed Monday.
Greitens resigned as governor in 2018 amid allegations of sexual misconduct and has attempted to make a political comeback in his bid for a US Senate seat. He was asked by several of his key Republican rivals on Monday to drop out of the race after allegations of abuse were made by his ex-wife.

Allegations Of Physical Abuse
Sheena Greitens, who now lives in Texas with the former couple’s two children, said she was so scared of her ex-husband that she tried to restrict his access to guns and, concerned for their safety, began in her children’s room to sleep. according to an affidavit filed in Boone County Circuit Court in Missouri as part of his efforts to move a custody case to Texas.
“In early June 2018, I feared for the safety of myself and our children at our home, which was fairly isolated due to Eric’s unstable and compulsive behavior,” she said, according to court filings from the ongoing custody battle. “This behavior included physical abuse of our children, such as E.g. handcuffing our three-year-old son across the face to the table in front of me and pulling his hair.”
Sheena Greitens said she and others were so concerned about Eric Greit’s behavior that they restricted his access to firearms three times. She said she was concerned about “the escalation of physical violence”. Eventually, “I started sleeping in my kids’ room just to try to protect them,” her affidavit reads.
In a statement, Eric Greitens denied the allegations.
“Being a father is the joy of my life and my most important responsibility,” he said. “I will continue to love and care for my beautiful children with my whole being, which includes fighting for the truth and against totally fabricated and baseless allegations.”
On Monday, his attorney asked the judge to seal the custody case.
In her affidavit, Sheena Greitens presented a series of allegations of verbal threats and physical abuse against her and her children. She explained how Eric Greitens allegedly threatened to use his political connections to tarnish his ex-wife’s reputation.
In one case, he claimed Eric Greitens “knocked down and confiscated my cell phone, wallet, and keys so he couldn’t call for help or get me and our kids out,” court filings say.
