The Russian army evacuates nine Pakistanis from Mariupol, Ukraine

Russian forces have evacuated 89 foreigners, including nine Pakistanis, from the besieged Ukrainian city of Mariupol in the past 24 hours, Geo News reported on Friday.

No further details were available on Pakistani citizens rescued by the invading army amid fierce fighting in Ukraine. The development comes days after Islamabad asked Moscow to evacuate Pakistanis stranded in the war zone.

Meanwhile, at the “request of the Ukrainian government,” Pakistan has reached Poland with humanitarian aid that Pakistan sent to Ukraine to help the people of the war-torn country.

The goods, shipped on two special C-130 flights, were delivered to the Polish government agency from the Pakistani embassy in Poland.

The humanitarian assistance includes emergency medicine, electro-medical equipment, winter bedding, and food, Radio Pakistan reported.

The relief supplies were delivered to Ukraine’s Ambassador in Islamabad earlier this week by Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

On the occasion, Qureshi said Pakistan has always acted swiftly along with the international community to respond to international calls for help in conflicts and disasters as a responsible and peace-loving nation.

He said the gesture shows Pakistan is a peace-loving nation and “we urge both countries to exercise restraint to save precious lives.”
