How To Get International Driving License in Pakistan?
An international driver’s license can help you with several important matters, especially if you are planning to travel abroad for even a short visit, and this is how you can apply for it.
Applicants must first hold a valid national driver’s license issued by the city’s traffic police. To obtain it, you can go to any traffic licensing office, but it should be noted that the international permit is issued by the licensing body that previously issued the applicant with the corresponding local driver’s license.
Also, there is no waiting time as citizens who have just received their local driver’s license can apply for the international permit the next day.
Punjab
Make an appointment in the Rasta app
It is highly recommended to book an appointment online through the Punjab IT Board Rasta app. The app can be downloaded from both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
After filling out the information and details required by CNIC, applicants can schedule an appointment and select the nearest licensing center they wish to visit. You can select the time slots you want and select the purpose of your visit from the list.
Appointments can also be booked via the app, from applying for a learner driver’s license to the issuance of a national or international driver’s license.
Fill Out The Application Form
Applicants must obtain an application form, which is available free of charge from the Licensing Office. It must be completed and accompanied by the following documents:
- Two certified passport photos
- Certified photocopy of valid CNIC
- A photocopy of the applicant’s passport
- Photocopy of the applicant’s valid national driver’s license
- Medical certificate (if applicable, for people over 50 years of age)
- A fine of Rs 66 was obtained from the district court
- A payment voucher of Rs 450 is payable at a branch of Habib Bank Limited (HBL)
Note: Additional fees may apply for the expedited process.
Applicants should also carry their original NICs and passports along with their original local driver’s license to avoid any inconvenience.
The direct application process for an international driver’s license is much longer than applying with a local driver’s license as the latter has door-to-door delivery of the international driver’s license within 24 hours.
In the rare event that the driver’s license issuance is delayed by more than 24 hours, applicants can go to the same driver’s license center to obtain the reissued international driver’s license.

Benefits Of An International Driver’s License
An international driver’s license can also serve as an ID card in many countries, as it contains almost all personal data. If a person loses their identification document or needs to apply for a new one, the international license can temporarily allow them to continue their routine activities while they wait.
However, this is a temporary aid and does not replace the need for a proper ID card, especially in a foreign country with strict laws.
Short Visit
Pakistani tourists can apply for an international driving license before traveling to a foreign country. This allows them to easily rent and drive cars.
Most countries do not allow visitors or foreigners to purchase or even drive vehicles unless they have a government-issued international driver’s license. Therefore, an international driver’s license can also help to save a lot of money and time instead of using public transport and spending large sums of money on short journeys.

Long or Permanent Stays
An international driver’s license is essential for nationals who plan to move permanently or stay in a foreign country for an extended period of time. These individuals are required to obtain a permanent driver’s license for the particular country they have moved to, but that does not mean that the Pakistan-issued international driver’s license is not helpful as it can be helpful in various situations.
Some of its benefits include reducing the driving lessons a Pakistani expat or immigrant has to take as they have a driving license in Pakistan.
Also, the International Driver’s License after the visa is the most important item for Pakistanis who are relocating to make a living as Heavy Transport Vehicle (HTV) drivers or taxi drivers.
