Who is Denyse Holt of Lincolnwood, Illinois? Biography, Wiki

Denyse Holt, a sly wordsmith who was held hostage in the basement of her Chicago home over the weekend, escaped the clutches of her naked and armed kidnapper thanks to an unexpected savior, according to police: Wordle.

She told Lincolnwood Police Department officers that she fell asleep on her own Saturday night, but woke up in the middle of the night to find a bloodied, naked man in her bedroom. She says her immediate instinct was to remain calm, but at the same time, she recalls thinking she was about to be killed in her bedroom.

Denyse Holt’s Age

Her current age is 80 years.

What Was The incident?

From the start, Holt says, he told the suspected intruder he would not yell or try to fight. He then reportedly told her he was cold and needed all his blankets, which she immediately offered to the naked and bleeding man. After lying under the covers for some time, the intruder decided he needed a bath and forced Holt to join him in the bath, police say.

According to Holt, after the bath, this already terrible situation began to seem hopeless.

After stepping out of the bathtub and wearing her soaked nightgown, she said the suspected intruder suddenly grabbed Holt’s arm and dragged her toward the house. He then allegedly severed each of Holt’s landlines, leaving pools of blood from the cuts everywhere. The alleged intruder’s injuries were from shards of glass he couldn’t clean after smashing a window and getting inside the house.

In an interview with CBS 2, Holt said he then went down to the basement, but not before the intruder quickly stopped. “He took two knives from my kitchen. He told me he liked it,” Holt said.

Once in the basement, the intruder barricaded Holt in his small dresser.

“I didn’t think I would survive,” Holt said.

There was no window, no light, no clock, and no way to contact anyone who could get her out, she said. She says that she was cold and still in her wet nightgown, that she was hungry and that she had no medication. Didn’t even have toilet paper. Her kidnapper, meanwhile, made his house his home after locking up his elderly victim.

Holt then decided that she would not give up and refused to let her children know of their mother’s murder. He considered escaping eventually, but decided the risk was too great. Also, after two nights, someone had to come and check the house.

“I walked and stretched as much as I could,” Holt recalled.

What he didn’t know at the time was that a rescue operation was already forming about 2,000 miles away in both California and Portland, Oregon. This is where Holt’s two daughters live, and both were concerned when their mum didn’t respond to their texts that day. Even more troubling, however, was that he had not shared his Wordle score.

With the text messages not coming through and his wordle incomplete, Holt’s daughters called the police to request a welfare check.

Emergency Operation

Officers arrived at the scene just after 9 p.m. Sunday, where they immediately noticed a shattered window covered in dried blood. They then searched the house, starting with the basement, where Holt was quickly located and taken to safety.

Officers were then able to locate their suspected kidnapper, later identified as Davis in police documents, on the second floor of the home.

Deputy Chief Travis Raypole tells Law & Crime that Davis was armed with several knives when he was found in one of the home’s bedrooms. Attempts to get Davis to surrender were unsuccessful, forcing officers to use a taser to subdue the man. This too was unsuccessful.

At the time, officers at the scene said they chose to call the SWAT team rather than confront Davis, who barricaded himself in the bedroom with the knives he found lying around the house. Shortly after they joined the team, SWAT determined that the subject was “using less than lethal options” and ended the five-hour standoff.

Detectives failed to realize that Davis, who had a private bathroom, likely had a mental health crisis from a deshabiller decision, an attack on the Maison de Holt, and the woman’s weekend terrorist.

Suspect Arrested

The suspect, 32-year-old James Davis III, was convicted on multiple charges including home invasion with a dangerous weapon, aggravated kidnapping while armed with a dangerous weapon, and two counts of aggravated assault against a police officer.
