Google Maps Sends People To Their Deaths Thanks To A Mistake
Google Maps has become the navigation application of choice for most people around the world. It has hundreds of millions of monthly users, and it’s alarming to learn that it is sending people on life-threatening routes.
Twitter user @pyrogeog just pointed out that Google Maps recommends dangerous routes in California, USA. The recommended route between Sacramento, California, and Reno, Nevada apparently was a bumpy forest road during a heavy snowstorm, but Google Maps took no action to warn it.
The Twitter user called Google Maps an unfortunate failure.
The National Weather Service (NWS) reported that five to nine feet of snow had fallen in the area over the past week and that the situation will not change anytime soon. Fortunately, there have been no confirmed reports of incidents in this region, but the way Google is recommending this type of route remains a matter of great concern.

Another Twitter user noted that the Android version of Google Maps did not adequately report road closures.
It goes without saying that technological innovations are not foolproof measures for traveling or navigating in extreme weather situations. In such cases, it is advisable to use multiple fonts.
