When is the winter solstice 2023 in Derbyshire?
After a long and arduous wait, we arrived slowly but surely. It’s one of the most important days of the calendar year and I’m not talking about Christmas!
The winter solstice is occuring on December 21st/22nd each year, which is the shortest day of the year. After this day the nights get shorter again as we get more and more hours of sunshine.
On that day, the sun is unlikely to rise until 8:27 a.m., which means it will be a very dark morning; Be careful if you drive to work early. It will peak at 12:04 p.m., which means that on that day it will be the peak of the hours of sunshine.
The sunsets at 3:50 p.m. in Derbyshire and should be completely gone by 3:59 p.m. Again, if you drive at any point in time or after, be careful on dark roads.

Winter solstice 2023 celebration
The winter solstice in the northern hemisphere occurs when the north pole points directly away from the sun, which means that there are a minimum of hours of sunshine in the upper half of the earth. So while we live our winter, the countries of the southern hemisphere (like Australia and South Africa) are enjoying their summer.
If you are on vacation and want to do something before Christmas, you can find a viewpoint to see the sunset on the 21st or 22nd.
