Miss America 2022 Winner & Results

Miss America 2022 Emma Broyles made history in more ways than one with her win.

Broyles, 19, was crowned the 100th Miss America contest Thursday at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.

She is the first Miss Alaska to become Miss America and the first Korean woman to hold the title.

Emma Broyles, Miss Alaska, earned the honorable title of Miss America 2022, beating Lauren Bradford, Elizabeth Pierre, and 48 other queens for first place.

Emma Broyles Introduction

Broyles, who studies biomedical science and singing at Arizona State University’s Barrett Honors College, told Insider she was especially proud to be the first Korean woman to become Miss America.

“This is something I hope will inspire other young women and men across the country who, in positions like Miss America, may never have seen people look like her,” she said.

Miss America makes waves as confetti falls around her. She hopes her victory will inspire other Miss America organizations. “I am honored above all else.”

Broyles also said that she believed her victory was evidence of the “positive change” the Miss America organization has made in recent years.

“I think, as an American from Korea who earned me the title of ‘Miss America’, I am very indicative of the positive change this organization has been going through,” she said.

“I think this is an incredibly progressive organization and we are progressive along with the changes we are seeing in society as well.”

“We’ve had such a diverse group of Miss Americas in the last decade, and even in the top 10 they were incredibly diverse,” she continued.

In the finals, the Miss America 2022 Top 10 candidates competed in the competition’s talent round hoping to impress the jury with their skills in poetry, musical instruments (including numerous violin performances), and dance.

For his performance, Broyles sang “Let Me Be Your Star” from the musical ‘Smash’.

Broyles also told the online news media that she was glad the competition ran out of swimsuits.

“It doesn’t matter what you look like. It doesn’t matter what your background is. It doesn’t matter who you like. None of that matters,” Broyles said of Miss America today. “What matters is who you are as a person, who you want to be, and what changes you want to make in the world.”
