10 Universities of Pakistan Named in the QS World University Rankings 2022

The top 10 universities from the public and private sector in Pakistan maintained their positions in the QS World University Rankings 2022 with a slight improvement.

Three colleges are in the 355-500 range, one in the 651-700 range, three in the 801-1,000 range, and as many in the 1,001+ range.

The National University of Science and Technology (NUST) Islamabad has taken a high position among Pakistani universities in the QS World University Ranking, which is in the range of 355.

The Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) ranks second and is in the 373rd band, while the University of Quaid-i-Azam took third place and was 454th in the band.

Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) ranks 651-700 while COMSATS University of Islamabad, University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore, and University of Punjab ranks 801-1000. The University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, the University of Karachi, and the University of Lahore are in the ranking of over 1000.

There are six KPI’s that determine the ranking of the institutions: academic reputation (40%), reputation as an employer (10%), the proportion of faculty and students (20%), appointments by faculty (20%), proportion of international students (5%) )) and proportion of international professors (5).

The QS World University Rankings 2022 is a publication of university rankings that are published annually by the British company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).

In the 2022 edition, 1,673 facilities from 93 locations were recorded and 1,300 were finally classified. Only 10 Pakistani institutions are on the list. The Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) only recognizes the QS World University Rankings.

PU Vice-Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed stated that the university’s QS World rankings 2022 had improved by 16% by 2022. He said the university was among 61.6% of the best universities in the world and it was a historic achievement.

He said that for the first time the 13 PU subjects by QS were ranked internationally and the PU Petroleum Engineering subject was ranked among the top 100-150 institutions in the world.

Ahmed said that the university’s research publications had increased due to the advancement of the research culture and that for the first time in its history, the university allocated a sizable amount of Rs.380 million to research last year.

He thanked the chairman of the PU classification committee, Dr. Khalid Mahmood, for his efforts to improve the university’s classification.
